Develop Communication with Spirit

Questions Asked

Since my book Voyage of Purpose was released, there’s been many questions through the years from people who are just starting on similar paths as mine. Some are asking, “How can I develop communication with Spirit?.” Others ask, How do I find my purpose. In this post, I want to encourage and give some initial guidance and recommendations on developing communication with your higher self. In a later post, I’ll talk about Finding your Purpose.

Developing Our Communication with Spirit Can Be Confusing

It is confusing and difficult, especially in the beginning. Even more troubling when trying to use that communication to find one’s purpose. I’ve learned it requires spending time to discern what is Spirit communication and what is our normal mind chatter. I had similar problems, especially after my Near-Death Experience (NDE). I found at times my mind would sometimes try to sound like Spirit. The tool that helped me discern the difference was using creativity and inspiration. Use it to help get a handle on what is Spirit and what is the incessant mind chatter.

I believe our inspiration comes from our higher self and our connection to Spirit. I know we all have something that we love to do that brings about inspiration. Maybe it’s music, art, crafts, writing, or whatever. As we do these activities that bring us joy, I recommend devoting all our attention to them and see what new ideas pop into our consciousness. Explore the new ideas further and try to accomplish them. I found that as I worked on my creativity, my heart would sing when new inspiring ideas came into my thoughts. That is a very subtle way Spirit can start to communicate so we can hear it above the chatter in our brains.

Take a Moment To Unplug To Clear The Mind

It is so important in our fast-paced lives to take a moment to unplug from technology and clear our minds. It can be difficult to do this if we are constantly attached to our phones and other devices. However, taking some time each day to disconnect from the outside world can help us to better connect with our own thoughts and feelings. As well as with the spiritual realm.

When we clear our minds of the constant chatter of the world around us, we open ourselves up to hearing the whispers of our own souls. We can also become more attuned to the energy of the Universe and the guidance that is available to us. If we are seeking answers to questions or guidance on our path, taking some time each day to unplug from technology will help us to better receive these messages.

There are many ways to unplug from technology. Such as spending time in nature, exercising, yoga, or simply disconnecting from social media and electronic devices for a period of time each day. Find what works best for you. Make a commitment to taking some time each day to clear your mind and connect with your inner wisdom. Or focus instead on “Simply Being.” Afterward, once we tap back into the world around us, we can see it as it really is, multiple streams of consciousness that are part of a single wholeness with infinite possibilities.

I recommend meditation to everyone on a spiritual path

When we meditate, we achieve both goals. We clear away the clutter of our thoughts and open ourselves up to guidance from our higher selves, our guides, and the divine. It allows us to get in touch with our authentic selves and receive messages from the Universe. If you’re on a spiritual path, or even if you’re just curious about what spirituality is, I highly recommend giving meditation a try. It’s one of the best ways to connect with your higher power and receive guidance on your life path.

I know, I know, meditation in itself can be a challenge. Meditation is great, yet if your having trouble quieting the mind, try a ceremony before the meditation. A ceremony gives the mind a chance to wind down. Something like lighting a candle and giving your gratitude for all the good and all the obstacles in life. Then visualize them going into the light so they can achieve the highest good for all. I found that simple ceremonies gives the mind something to do and also helps in quieting it. For example, look at all the ceremony that is part of church services. Those ceremonies have a purpose.

  1. I listened to your near death experience and it brought me such peace and happiness. I was near death a few years ago but did not have an experience but I did feel an overwhelming peace during that time and I didn’t feel alone. Since then I know I lived because I have a purpose. I love in chronic pain everyday and am Ill but I embrace it and am thankful for it but I don’t share that often because people find it crazy. When I heard you say the same thing I literally jumped up screaming “yes -I get it! I know!” It humbled me that someone understood that you have to love and embrace the bad because it’s just as much of an experience as the good and we are here to experience it all. Thank you for sharing your story because I’m grateful you understand me!

    • Dawn, I’m Sorry you live with chronic pain. That is something we share and is an opportunity for us to have a greater awareness of goodness when it’s present. Thank you for your beautiful comment.
