Happiness for Another’s Good Experience

This week’s Contemplative Living Podcast examines happiness for another’s good experience or good fortune. Sometimes, we may not agree with someone else’s lifestyle; however, we can still grant them kindness by celebrating their successes and generous acts. Letting go of our need to dictate what is right opens up a space for us to appreciate instead of envy others. If we take the time to truly observe another person, perhaps something within them will begin to grow and flourish. Let us step out of the way and allow happiness when that happens.

Make The Effort To Truly See Them

It can be easy to get wrapped up in our own lives and problems and forget about the people around us. But taking the time to truly see other people – to really listen to them and understand what they’re going through – can make a world of difference. When we make the effort to see other people, we open up the possibility for genuine connection.

We might find that we have more in common with them than we realized. And even if we don’t, taking the time to truly see another person can make them feel valued and appreciated. The next time you’re talking to someone, really try to see them. Listen with your whole heart, and let down your guard enough to be vulnerable yourself. You might just be surprised by the connection you make.

Revel In Their Success

It’s always a great feeling when someone you know succeeds. When they’ve put in the hard work and it’s paid off, it’s only natural to want to share in their happiness. Here are a few ways to revel in another’s success:

  • First and foremost, be genuine in your congratulations. If you’re not genuinely happy for them, it’ll be pretty obvious. –
  • Take the time to really celebrate with them. Whether that means going out for drinks or dinner, or just spending some extra time together, make sure they know you’re happy for their success.
  • Most importantly, don’t be jealous. It’s okay to be proud of your own accomplishments, but don’t let that turn into envy.

Remember that everyone has different goals and paths in life, and what works for someone else may not work for you. Be happy for their success, and use it as motivation to achieve your own.
