Self-Respect and Respect For Others

This week’s Contemplative Living Podcast discusses developing self-respect and respect for others in life requires being open to whatever presents itself. Part of our experience of happiness and suffering results from our interaction, and relationships with, others. With peaceful reactions to each experience, we create and reduce karma that will color our future. Shifting focus from “me” to “we” is one essential resource for our own self-respect and respect for others. Respect offers a way to connect and find a way to think more collectively. Contemplative insights and wisdom have the potential to change human consciousness for the better. Point steadily at the inherent respect we possess for others as our north star.

Respectful Dialogue

One of the most important things in life is to have respectful dialogue with others, whether it is with a family member, friend, co-worker, or even a stranger. By engaging in respectful dialogue, we are not only showing respect for the other person but also for ourselves. It can be difficult to have respectful dialogue with someone if we ourselves don’t feel respect for the other person. That is why it is so important to first work on developing self-respect. Once we have a strong sense of self-respect, it becomes easier to show respect for others.
